Mission and Vision
Mission
The School of Arts and Sciences advances the liberal arts and sciences, creative expression and interdisciplinary scholarship that respond to contemporary challenges. Through rigorous teaching, impactful research and active community engagement, the School prepares students for leadership, innovation and responsible citizenship in a rapidly evolving technological and social landscape.
Vision
The School of Arts and Sciences will strengthen its role as a catalyst for intellectual innovation, human-centered technological advancement and transformative education with meaningful social impact.
Strategic Priorities
The School champions excellence in basic sciences teaching and learning, recognizing the foundational role of scientific reasoning in preparing graduates for advanced study, innovation and evidence-based decision making. Pedagogical innovation, undergraduate research and experiential learning are central to this commitment, ensuring that students develop both conceptual rigor and practical competence.
Equally vital is the School’s role as a steward of the creative and performing arts, where artistic practice, performance and scholarship enrich cultural life and serve as powerful vehicles for dialogue, communication, reflection and community engagement. The arts are integral to interdisciplinary education and essential to understanding the human dimensions of technological, scientific and social change.
Anchored in its regional context and informed by a global outlook, the School advances socially engaged scholarship through initiatives focused on vulnerable populations, gender, migration, conflict resolution and peacebuilding. This work mobilizes faculty expertise across disciplines to address displacement, inequality, conflict and resilience, translating research into policy engagement, public discourse and community impact.
At its core, the School embraces artificial intelligence and computing as enabling disciplines, integrated across the sciences, humanities and arts. AI is advanced not merely as a technical tool, but as a subject of ethical inquiry, creative exploration and societal reflection. Through initiatives in AI and Ethics and Digital Humanities, the School cultivates interdisciplinary scholarship that critically examines technology’s impact on culture, governance, equity and human identity.
