About

Ali Yassin

Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Dr. Yassin completed his graduate studies in 2008 at the University of Rennes’ Institute of Chemical Sciences (ISCR), France, with an International Master in Catalysis and Molecular Chemistry. He worked with Dr. Cyril Poriel on new derivatives as Blue-light emitters in OLEDs. He obtained a PhD in Organic Materials under Dr. Jean Roncali from the University of Angers in 2011. After his thesis, Dr. Yassin joined the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) as a postdoc until 2014, after which he moved to the Berlin Institute of Technology (TUB) in Germany and remained as a senior scientist for two years.

Returning to Lebanon, he joined the Lebanese University (LU) in Beirut while continuing to be a visiting scholar at both the University of Angers and the University of Nantes in France with frequent research stays for continued collaborative projects. In 2022, Dr. Yassin joined LAU as a full-time assistant professor of materials chemistry at the Department of Physical Sciences.

Research Interests

Dr. Yassin’s research interests lie in the broad field of electro-active materials, organic semiconductors, hybrid organic/inorganic systems and Nanoparticles, polymer chemistry and the study of structure-properties relationships. Applications span from renewable energy resources to biomedical, optical and electronic devices, water treatment and climate action.

He is the author and co-author of more than 20 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals with many international conferences and delivered talks in the US, China, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Croatia, among others. Additionally, Dr. Yassin holds a BA in law and is passionate about public policies, international law, and institutional and non-governmental organizations.
