Yasmine Fakhry
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Nutrition
Dr. Yasmine Fakhry is Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at the Lebanese American University (LAU). She is a licensed dietitian and social public health researcher with over 12 years of experience spanning clinical nutrition, food service management, public health, teaching, and community-based programming. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on nutrition and food security, food safety, humanitarian nutrition, health systems, and the impacts of conflict, displacement, and climate change on health and nutrition, with particular attention to marginalized and crisis-affected populations.
Dr. Fakhry holds a PhD in Social Public Health from the University of East London, an MA in International Affairs and an MBA from LAU, and a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics from the American University of Beirut. Her doctoral research, Beyond Cells and Walls: Exploring Human Rights and Social Justice through Health and Nutrition in Lebanese Prisons, reflects her broader interest in integrating nutrition, public health, human rights, and social justice. She is also a Senior Visiting Fellow at LAU’s Institute for Migration Studies (IMS) and Institute for Social Justice and Conflict Resolution (ISJCR), a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Migration, Refugees and Belonging (CMRB) at the University of East London and an Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) Early-Career Postdoctoral Fellow 2025–2026.
Alongside her academic work, Dr. Fakhry brings extensive professional and community experience. She previously served as Dietetics and Nutrition Manager at Raee Hospital, where she led clinical nutrition and food service operations, food safety and quality initiatives, and the training of dietetic interns and professionals. She is a member of the Administrative Committee of the Lebanese Order of Dietitians and serves as Secretary of the Board of Ahlouna NGO. Her teaching and mentorship emphasize bridging scientific evidence with professional practice and addressing contemporary challenges in nutrition, food systems, sustainability, and public health.
