AI & IOT Fusion: The Smart Systems Hands-on Experience (Beirut Campus)

Bootcamp Summary

AI & IoT Fusion: The Smart Systems Experience is an intensive, one-day hands-on bootcamp designed for high school students (Grades 9–12) at LAU. This fast-paced program introduces participants to the exciting world where Artificial Intelligence meets the Internet of Things (IoT). Through interactive sessions, students will first explore key AI concepts and popular tools that power modern intelligent systems — including image recognition, chatbots, and generative AI. They will then dive into IoT fundamentals and work directly with Raspberry Pi boards to build and control smart connected applications.

By the end of the day, participants will have gained practical experience in creating mini smart-systems prototypes that combine sensors, data, and AI decision-making — empowering them to understand how today’s smart devices think, sense, and act.

Time

Session Title

Description

9:00 – 9:30 AM

Welcome & Orientation

Introduction to the bootcamp goals, overview of AI + IoT, and team formation.

9:30 – 11:00 AM

Session 1: Artificial Intelligence in Action

Interactive presentation and demos of AI tools (image generation, Teachable Machine, chatbots). Students experiment with simple AI models and see how data drives intelligent behavior.

11:00 – 11:15 AM

Break

11:15 AM – 1:00 PM

Session 2: IoT Fundamentals & Raspberry Pi Setup

Introduction to IoT systems: sensors, actuators, and connectivity. Hands-on setup of Raspberry Pi, exploring GPIO pins, sensors, and LEDs. Students write basic Python code to interact with hardware.

1:00 – 1:45 PM

Lunch Break

CSM lounge or cafeteria

1:45 – 3:15 PM

Session 3: Building Smart IoT Applications

Guided mini-project: connect a sensor (e.g., temperature or motion) to trigger smart actions (lights, sound, or screen output). Introduce how simple AI decisions can be embedded (e.g., if temperature > X → activate fan).

3:15 – 4:15 PM

Session 4: AI + IoT Integration Challenge

Teams work on a short challenge: design a smart system concept (e.g., Smart Home Monitor, Smart Garden, or Smart Study Desk) using sensors and AI ideas.

4:15 – 5:00 PM

Showcase & Certificate Ceremony

Teams present their prototypes and ideas; certificates distributed to participants.
