Professor Mike Fellows hosted by CS+M
The Department of Computer Science and Mathematics at the Lebanese American University in Beirut hosted Professor Mike Fellows of Charles Darwin University (Australia) who gave a short course on Parametrized Complexity and Multivariate Algorithmics. The short course was in the form of three 90-minute lectures offered on April 30, May 2, and May 3, 2012, in LRC 21. Undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty members from Lau and other universities operating in Lebanon attended the short course.
Biography:
Michael Ralph Fellows is Professor at Charles Darwin University, Australia, and Director of the Parameterized Complexity Research Unit (PCRU). Fellows is recognized as one of the founders of Parameterized Complexity, a complexity framework that uses structure in hard problems for the design and analysis of algorithms for their solution. Parameterized Complexity has strong connections to algorithmic engineering and is increasingly important in fields as diverse as Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, and Bioinformatics. Fellows was awarded an Australian Research Council Professorial Fellowship (for five years, beginning 2010). In 2007, he was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Research Award for his leadership and development of the field.
