Department of Education Seminar: Teacher Education Programs
On October 1 and 2, a seminar was held at LAU on teacher education programs and issues related to teacher preparation and continuous professional development. The seminar was hosted by the Department of Education and sponsored by the Center for Lebanese Studies and the Center for International Teacher Education, South Africa.
Participants from education departments and teacher preparation programs at the American University of Beirut, the Lebanese University, CERD and CITE South Africa shared their experiences with the audience. A common theme was the paucity of research on the effectiveness of the various teacher preparation programs. The seminar was followed by a closed meeting that aimed to develop a research program and a consortium that address the priorities and research gaps in the field of teacher education in Lebanon. It also planned comparative research on teacher education, case studies of successful practice in Lebanon and South Africa.
