The Department of English hosted a poetry reading by prize-winning Lebanese poet Zeina Hashem Beck on October 20 at LAU’s Beirut campus. Beck read from her highly acclaimed Louder than Hearts. Her writing covers a wide range of topics of interest to LAU faculty and students, namely Arab culture, family narratives, language, identity and female voices. Louder than Hearts won the 2016 May Sarton New Hampshire Poetry Prize. The reading was followed by a book signing. The department is planning to hold similar poetry reading events by various poets during the academic year.
