In an effort to connect global political shifts to local concerns, the Department of Political and International Studies (POLIS) at LAU’s School of Arts and Sciences co-sponsored a panel discussion in collaboration with the Najjar Foundation, titled The Day After the US Elections. LAU political science/international affairs students joined community members to examine the potential impact of US elections on the Middle East, with a focus on Palestine and Lebanon.

The event featured former Lebanon Ambassador to the United States Antoine Chedid, L’Orient-Le Jour’s Co-Editor-in-Chief Anthony Samrani, and Associate Professor and POLIS Chair Imad Salamey, who analyzed how shifts in US foreign policy might influence regional stability and diplomacy. Attended by ex-Minister of Interior and Municipalities of Lebanon Ziad Baroud and past Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar, alongside professionals with expertise in diplomacy and media, the discussion explored topics that ranged from the implications for Lebanon’s fragile political system to Palestine’s quest for statehood. Students also played a key role in asking incisive questions and sharing their views about the regional and international political climate.
