Teacher Training Institute Workshops in 2018
The Teacher Training Institute (TTI) offered several on-site training workshops in 2018 in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia:
In October 2018, Institute Director Dr. Rima Bahous gave a two-day workshop to 90 teachers and coordinators in the Saudi Al Najd National School.
The main objectives of the workshop were to help educators:
- Recognize the importance of using non-traditional pedagogical techniques and strategies in their classes
- Develop their own blended methodology to model and foster reflective activities to heighten the teaching/learning process
- Apply various techniques and strategies in their classes to foster non-traditional teaching and learning
- Communicate with others effectively
- Collaborate with others to resolve work conflict
The TTI gave two three-hour workshops in August and September to coordinators and teachers at Adduha High School in Beirut on new methods of teaching and the duties of coordinators.
The participants received training on:
- School responsibilities
- Main duties of coordinators/heads of departments at schools
- An instructional leader
- A strategic planner
In June, the TTI gave two four-hour training workshops to 25 teachers in Hanaway School in the south to address the needs of students with learning disabilities in the K-6 classroom.
The first workshop covered the following points:
- Defining learning disabilities and what they look like in the classroom
- Universal design for learning (reaching all students and planning for different learning types/abilities/styles, right from the start)
- Practical but evidence-based strategies
The second workshop focused on classroom management, including:
- Learning environments (pro-active measures)
- Time management for teacher and students (time on tasks, active learning, etc.)
- Policies and rules for behavior
- Reactive measures
- Sanctions
- Rules and hands-on
