LAU Student Aces the MCAT
Biology student Maria Abdo scored in the 100th percentile on her Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), ranking among the 0.5% of the best test-takers in the world.
Abdo described her rigorous preparation, skipping the traditional content review because she felt that the LAU curriculum had already provided a strong foundation.
Instead, she focused almost exclusively on practice, proving the famous adage right by achieving a near-perfect score.
Abdo also believes her experience in SoAS Associate Dean Sandra Rizk’s research lab, through the School’s Undergraduate Research and Discovery (URaD) program, played an important role in her success. “Research has strengthened my ability to interpret experimental data and understand study designs,” she said. “These skills proved especially useful when working through the scientific passages, where I often had to analyze unfamiliar experiments and apply concepts rather than recall information.”
