BA in Education
Mission
The mission of the Education Program at LAU is to prepare highly qualified educators committed to evidence-based practices, diversity, collaboration, and ongoing self-improvement.
The Education Program seeks to be a leader in the region for preparing ethical professionals able to support a diverse student body learning in a non-native environment, to work collaboratively with others with commitment to civic engagement, and to engage in continuous personal and professional development. In particular, graduates of the program will excel in the use of technology in teaching.
Program Objectives
The B.A. in Education seeks to:
disseminate research-based pedagogical content knowledge with particular attention to the needs of diverse learners,
provide practice in designing effective learning situations and communicating knowledge in many modalities, drawing on up-to-date educational technologies,
promote reflective thinking on choices and actions during the learning process, and
foster productive collaboration in a group setting, and active engagement in opportunities to grow professionally.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the B.A. in Education, students should be able to:
- analyze critically the contents and organization of modern school curricula,
- apply theories of learning to instructional decision-making and curriculum design, with attention to diverse learners’ characteristics,
- apply theories and techniques of student learning assessment,
- utilize a variety of communication techniques suitable for learners in a non-native language, including written, verbal, nonverbal and media-based communication,
- design and manage effective learning environments,
- engage in a continuous cycle of planning, implementing, reflecting and improving professional practice, and
- demonstrate collaborative and ethical professional practice.
